We were tasked with conceptualizing ideas for the public spaces within Hyvinkään Villatehdas, particularly focusing on the expansive courtyard surrounded by the historic factory structures. Our objective was to devise a plan and scenario that aimed to invigorate the environment, create more recreational areas for employees, and entice passersby to pause and appreciate the beautiful settings of this historical location.
To achieve these objectives, our strategy involves reducing the number of parking spaces and narrowing the driving lanes that segment the yard, thereby freeing up space for public use. We proposed ideas such as parklets, kiosks, café stands, and even a sheltered area for sheep to graze within a fenced meadow. These concepts are currently under evaluation and may potentially be implemented in the upcoming years. The design process has been guided by the museum-like surroundings and the materials intrinsic to the buildings.
