VUOTALO PAVILLION & GARDEN

We were commissioned to design modular pavillions with an integrated urban garden for Vuosaari House – a cultural centre in the eastern part of Helsinki. The project is a continuation to Vuotalo Garden – a temporary installation, which, after one succesfull summer ended up enlivening the square for three summers.

For the new installation, we designed a modular system, which is easy to take down for the winter and re-assemble in the spring – giving it a longer life cycle. The installation makes the activities of the communal cultural centre visible in the public sphere, attracts new audiences and provides a spot for outdoor childrenĀ“s art and gardening courses in the summer. The pavilions provide an easy access place for lounging too – and is popular amongst youngsters from next door high school.
