Maunulatalo is a hybrid community building with a library, youth centre, education and course-spaces and a community cafe. The activities and facilities of the building are developed with participatory budgeting and planning. Back in 2017 the panel of locals suggested that the front and back yards of the building should be activated. The idea was to add more seating, gardening and events. We first set up and ideas wall to update and complete the ideas. We designed a set of mobile furniture for the yard looking at references of the architecture of the building and the surroundings. The aim was to create a set which allow different forms of use and which can also be moved aside during bigger events. The kiosk-cart is used by the cafe enabling extending their services on the yard during warmer seasons. The herb garden is used by the cafe and tended by the staff.
