We were commissioned to develop ideas for the Hyvinkään Villatehdas’s public spaces, mainly the big courtyard amidst the old factory buildings. We developed a concept and a scenario which looked into how to create a more lively environment and more recreational spaces for the employees at the site and how to attract passers by to stop over and use the beautiful surroundings of this historical site.
To obtain the goals the aim is to reduce the amount of parking spaces and the width of driving lanes that cut the yard in many sectors and free the space for public purposes. Parklets, kiosks and cafe-stands and even a shed where sheep could gaze on a fenced meadow are ideas that are now evaluated and possibly realised in the next coming years. The museal surroundings and the materials of the buildings have been directing the design process.
