PLAY IT!

A barely used cargo elevator located in the courtyard of the Finnish Architecture Museum and the Designmuseum of Finland celebrated its transformation into a cultural venue for an entire summer in the heart of Helsinki’s design district.

Play it – Pop Up Museum is a model of how under used or abandoned infrastructure can temporally serve for public purposes. Cultural events such as exhibitions, concerts or workshops can be held in an already lively cultural environment though with marginal costs. The exhibition in question had a focus on people’s favorite commodities and how they change or enrich their lives presented through “zoetropes”. An old and fully manual way of showing animation sequences and one of the earliest ancestors of early day cinema.
